12 Powerful Steps to Successful Goal Setting

 1.     Decide what you want to accomplish.  The goal should be very specific. For example:  Have a specific personal recruitment goal. Don’t just leave it up to chance. How many people will YOU recruit this year?  How many leaders will you develop?  How many Pin levels will you turn in your group?  How many people will you help in your team to earn $1000 per month? $5,000 per month?  $10,000 per month?  Your number of the people you will help will have a direct relationship to your income goal.  MAP and RIG (Residual Income Goal) for each person in your team.

2.     Determine a deadline for accomplishment.  A goal must have a deadline.  If you do not have a date on it, the goal is only a wish or a dream.  Set your goals for the year, then quarters then months, weeks and days.

     Determine that the goal is believable to you.  You must feel that the goal can be realized.  If you believe it is impossible to achieve, you will never take the action necessary to make the goal a reality.

     Where are you now?  Take a current inventory.  You will never know how far you have to go if you don’t know where you already are. What does your organization look like?  Touch base with each person in it if you have a small one.  Look for leaders and for people who want to “play”  As you recruit you will constantly be doing the internal recruiting.  Who else is HOT.  But you must know where you are now.

     What obstacles do you need to overcome?  Is there something that may make it difficult to achieve your goal?  Be aware of the obstacle so you can make plans to overcome it.  Lack people to talk to?  What to say?  Negative spouse?  Lack of time? Balance?  Once you’ve identified them you can overcome them.  Like fear, on the other side is freedom.  There IS a solution to each obstacle.  First, identify the obstacle.

     What knowledge will you need to acquire?  New to NWM? Start with the What To Do First and all the Priority trainings on BDM.  You want to grow a bigger business? Focus on leadership.  Be on ALL the calls, read books on leadership, attend the trainings.

7.     What organizations and groups should you associate with?  Leaders, calls, upline, morning coffee groups, business networking events.  Are there certain people or groups of people that can make it easier for you to accomplish your goal?  How can you become affiliated with them?

8.
     What are the benefits to you?  Write down as many benefits as possible.  The more benefits you can come up with, the more likely you will be to stick to the goal until it is achieved.  “WHY”  Have your BIG ‘why’ but also, why must you accomplish these goals THIS year?

     Develop an action plan.  Determine the specific steps that will be necessary to achieve the goal.  Start at the accomplishment of the goal and work backwards. The Activity sheet on the BDM site can help with this so much.  Begin with the end in mind. Give yourself a game plan by listening to and filling out your Activity sheet.

Visualize yourself accomplishing the goal.  See yourself in clear detail as if you have already achieved the goal.  If you want to close more people into your business, see yourself closing more people easily.  Are you on the phone? Face to face? Business briefing?  How to you see yourself reaching your recruitment goal?  Do this over and over again until it becomes part of your subconscious mind.
Can you see it? So can your subconscious mind. It’s the same thing with your recruitment goals, or your leadership development goals. How do you see yourself doing what you want to accomplish? You don’t get what you want, you get what you picture. “Engage the Imagination, then take it where you will. Where the mind has repeatedly journeyed, the body will surely follow. People go only to places they have already been in their minds.”

11.
Take daily action towards the goal.   Dreams and goals require action.  The best goal in the world will never materialize unless consistent action is taken. MASSIVE ACTION.  “The Magic of Thinking Big”  has a chapter on that.  DAILY ACT but also DAILY Visualize.  Every day, each decision is an ACTION toward your goals.

12.
Resolve to never quit.  Decide that you will never give up, even when times get tough, until your goal is reached. BE here a year from now.  One thing that will help is to share your goals to someone that will help you hold yourself accountable to your goal.  Don’t share it with everyone,… why?People without dreams will tear yours down.  Do share your goals with people who want to help you achieve them.
